Public Workshop: Townhouse from LEGO Bricks
2013 | Helsinki
In the Townhouse from LEGO Bricks workshop, residents of Helsinki explored the concept of a townhouse at an Arkki workshop commissioned by the Helsinki City Planning Department.
Initially, participants were introduced to the key principles of townhouses. Children and parents designed their dream townhouses in pairs or groups. They then built them using LEGO bricks to a 1:50 scale. Participants were encouraged to discuss their designs with others during the construction process to ensure the townhouses connected smoothly with each other.
At the end of the workshop, the LEGO buildings were placed on a map of Kruunuvuorenranta, an area under development. The workshop generated a wide range of ideas and diverse implementations. The workshop was held in the Laituri exhibition space of the Helsinki City Planning Department.
