Arkki School of Architecture for Children and Youth, is maintained by a nonprofit organization of the same name, which began its activities in 1994 by organizing camp sessions on a forested meadow by the sea in Espoo’s Ruukinranta. Today, Arkki offers comprehensive basic education in the arts related to architecture to 650 pupils in Espoo, Helsinki, and Vantaa. Additionally, nearly 400 eager builders participate annually in summer camps, with Hut Building Camps being a perennial favorite. Various workshops, themed courses, events, and projects further expand the reach of its activities. The goal is to spark interest in the surrounding environment among children and youth and help them build a toolkit for being creative, active, and participatory citizens.
